The Expected Nonsense – Show Announcement

In the coming weeks, months, years or what have you, I, Pete Flyod, will guide you through the cinema as no one has done before.

With honest appraisals of films based solely on opinions rooted in reality.

We watch films to escape reality.

To leave ourselves for those few hours and view the filmmaker’s vision of the story. But let’s face it, sometimes, we leave the experience sorely disappointed while other times we’re left with the hairs on the back of our necks standing up. I hope I can guide you through the world of cinema like a sage wizard, telling you which films to avoid like poisoned berries and which films to ingest like a healing potion.

This grown momma’s boy knows his movies folks. Trust in the fat guy…

The VHS Review Show – Michael Edition

Hello ‘Slicers. It’s Michael Welborn here. I’m addicted to VHS tapes. It’s something about the way the it feels in my hand as I slide the sleeve from the tape— It’s the way an old tape smells– It’s the vintage design style of the campiest films and videos I can find– and most importantly, it’s the nostalgia of the electricity in the air and the bleeding desaturated colors, flickering with distortion.

There’s just something about the VHS aesthetic that I can’t resist.

The VHS Life

Like most people that have an interest in VHS Tapes I grew up going to the mom and pop movie shops which lead to the Video Watch/Hollywood Video that I frequented often in my pre/early teens. Fast forward to the age of 31 when I caught wind that there was an Auction house in my hometown in which you could sell anything, after I sold off everything I wanted to get rid of I found myself needing more stuff to sell so I began Junk Picking.

Conversation with Strangers – A Docu-Series

One day, I came across a term online that struck my imagination.

Sonder.

In my own words, it means something like this:

You’re the John Wayne, Daenerys Targaryen, Han Solo, etc, of your life story. You are the main character. Your friends, your family, the circles of people directly involved in your life, those are your supporting cast. You know their names, their faces, birthdays, etc. Everyone else, we are the nobodies. We are the faces in the crowd. We don’t stand out. You pass us in traffic and pay no mind and give almost no thought to our lives unless something about us makes us a little different – like say a few lip rings. 🙂

However, for the other people that you pass by, the opposite is true for them. They are the Harry Potters, Dana Scully, and Rick Grimes of their own worlds. Their friends are their supporting cast, and YOU are the nobody. Continue reading “Conversation with Strangers – A Docu-Series”
